Compare an alarm with flowing water. The latter doesn’t have abrupt changes in volume. Instantly your brain will associate that with a calm state of mind.

We are programmed to respond to noises that are abrupt and disrupt our peaceful state of mind.

Next time you are stressed, mix music with water.
